 A lbuquerque Public Schools (APS) is the largest school district in New Mexico.  APS serves students in Albuquerque, Rio Rancho, Corrales, Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, Tijeras, San Antonito, Edgewood, and Laguna and Isleta pueblos.  The district boasts 140 locations and more than 89,500 students (February 2014).  There are 33 public charter schools serving more than 6000 students.  In 2009, APS students received more than $45 million in scholarships.  The newest APS comprehensive high school on the west side, Atrisco Heritage Academy, has its own film studio and courtroom.  Atrsisco utilizes “academies” to focus students into a theme-based curriculum that directs their studies by providing depth of understanding within their area of choice, called “career pathways.” Several of the charter schools also utilize “academies” focusing on careers in technology, performing arts, visual arts, law, and healthcare.
